Hans Rudolf Herren is a leader in holistic, integrated and sustainable development. His experience in research, capacity development, management of agricultural and bio-science research organizations has led him to leadership at the policy level as president and CEO of the Millennium Institute USA.
The Millennium Institute empowers developing countries in the design and evaluation of sustainable development strategies. Dr. Herren has 27 years experience in Africa, including key positions in Kenya and Nigeria, where he led the development and implementation of one of the world’s largest, most successful and life-saving biological control programs. He has been recipient of the 2010 One World Award, the World Food Prize and the World Prize for Environmental Achievement, among many other prestigious honors. He is coordinator of the agriculture chapter of the UNEP Green Economy Report and is chair and member of several ecological foundations. He has authored some 80 publications and holds degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and the Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich.
